1st club comp

Post by barry on Sun 18 May - 22:39

Sat saw the first Rinnashark boat comp of the year take place with the day starting off with clear skies flat calm seas. The weather picked up a little as the day went on but still fish able. with a full boat we did the first half of the comp under anchor and the second half on the drift. With the comp been only five hours it left the last hour for a bit of pleasure fishing and we decided to try for a plaice  Neutral  with not a sign of a plaice showing but we did manage a few dabs ,grey gurnard and whiten some of the lads could of done with these species during the comp Neutral .
For the comp the fishing at anchor was good with a mix of fish and the competition was very close between a few angler. For the 2nd half and with wind picking up we went on the drift a good bit slower but still a good mix of fish one ore two really nice pollock and wrasse. In the comp 212 fish of 11 species were caught ( cod, pollock, coalie.whiten, pout, poor cod, ling, dab, ballan wrasse cuckoo wrasse, dog)
Results:
1st Barry murphy
2nd Eddie Buttler
3rd Conor Purcell
4th Alan Walshe

2nd comp 15-6-14

Post by barry on Sun 15 Jun - 22:58

Today we held the 2nd Rinnashark master angler boat competition of 2014. One of the best days of the year weather wise flat calm sea and water was real clear. Plenty of sun cream was needed. 8 of us headed out for a five hour competition and finish the day with a bit of pleasure fishing. Lines down at 10.05 to start with fishing was slow with ballans and poor cod slowly coming in but martyn picked up his pollock very quickly flying ahead after 2.5 hours with any fish caught worked hard for we moved to anchor a few ling and big pout and cuckoos started to come in and fishing picked up and a few conger too.stuart managed a rare big top knot.the last half hour was done on the drift but little or no drift made it hard. After the comp mackerel suddenly made an apperance in numbers and some big one s too well need to stock back up the freezer an stop close in produced a nice dab for myself and a codling for conor to top off good craic and great weather the skipper filleted and battered up some fish and cooked them  Very Happy . in the end it was close contest and a good comp.  it was the clubs first time using this boat out of helvick but wont be the last  Very Happy .

3rd comp 13/7/14 dunmore

Post by barry on Sun 13 Jul - 21:30

Today was the 3rd leg of the rinnashark sac boat master angler compet. It as fished out of dunmore aboard of the marksman, thanks to skipper Lenny O Neill. The weather was great which made for comfortable fishing. From the start the fishing was fast with lots of spices and fish coming in. As with the first two legs there was 3 hours on the drift and two at anchor we started on the drift because the tide suited to anchor in eve. half way through the drift part we had a visit from martyn in the helicopter and he took a photo for us  Very Happy
.With nearly everyone having quota of the more common species on the drift fishing slowed at anchor as people tried to get different species and change tactics,
In the end 289 fish of  13 species were caught between 5 anglers and very close in the end with 1 point between 1st and 2nd.
Results
1st Barry murphy 375 pts
2nd conor purcell 374pts
3rd eddie buttler 372 pts
4th stuart power 339pts
5th brian oneill 281 pts
