Over 120 of Ireland’s best anglers descended on Enniscrone beach in October for the prestigious All-Ireland Open Shore Fishing Finals. The event which is regarded as one of the most competitive fishing events in Ireland attracted international media attention also with a film crew from Irish TV capturing the tension, tackle and triumphs for a special Sky and Freesat TV broadcast.
“It was amazing to see the entire beach dotted with fishermen all afternoon. This is certainly a perfected art and the attention to details was just amazing. I am sure the event was also a resounding success for the local economy especially at this time of year,” commented Irish TV producer Pierce O’Reilly.

The Irish TV produced programme will be broadcast to an international TV audience on Thursday, November 22nd at 9pm. “While we were very much focused on the fishing over the weekend, we also got to sample the wonderful Sligo hospitality and also got some amazing scenic shots from the region for the show,” commented O’Reilly.

“We are delighted that Irish TV covered the competition this year. They are shining a spotlight on one of Ireland’s most popular pastimes but one that usually doesn’t get much TV coverage. Fishing and angling is one of Ireland’s strongest tourism attractions also so it’s fantastic that an international TV audience will be tuned in to see what Enniscrone and indeed Ireland has to offer fishing enthusiasts,” commented Pat Walsh, President of the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers.

Apart from the fishing from Enniscrone, this week’s show will also feature an insightful report from declining priest numbers and how the church is responding and a report from one of Ireland’s most renowned manors, Castletown House in Co. Kildare. The entire Enniscrone feature can be watched this coming Thursday, November 22nd on Sky TV, channel 191 and Freesat 400 from 9pm. The entire show and all the past ‘Out & About in Ireland’ programmes can be viewed on demand at www.irishtv.ie.
