Cobh SAC will be running a light line boat competition

Post by Admin on Tue 2 Mar - 9:27

Cobh SAC will be running a light line boat competition confined to the Harbour next Sunday week, 14th March, from 9am - 3pm. Entry is 40. If you are interested drop me a pm or contact the Club Secretary, Mary Geary, at seaangling@esatclear.ie.

The rules are very loosely based on the National Fish Offs back in Nov. Main line, rig body, & snoods to be of 15lb or under. No more than three hooks. No restriction on bait. No casting from boat, but under hand swings beneath the gunwhale allowed. Lines down at 9:30am and lines up at 2:30pm. The boat will leave the pier at 9am. Check in will be from the hut at the entrance to Kennedy Pier (Pier Head) Cobh from 8:45am. Draw for positions will be done on the boat.

Each boat (if more than one) will be considered a zone. The winner on board will be considered as having a score of 100%. All others will be calculated as a % off this. The winner between the two boats will be the person with the most score, the 2cnd place will be the other 100%er.

Main target species will be codling, whiting, dabs, lsd, pouting & poor cod. Rigs normally are a combo of 3 hk pats, 2ups 1 down, 1 up 2 downs, or variations of legers upto 3 hks. Crab accounted for most of codling, whereas the whiting fell mainly to mack.

At 40 for boat/comp entry its great value !

We are now taking entries for this year's Festival.

We've up the prize fund for this competition to 7,500. Of this 2,000 will be in cash, the breakdown as follows:

1st Prize 1000
2cnd Prize 400
3rd Prize 200
Best Team of 4 400

The competition will be run over four days from the 6th to 10th September 2010 (Mon, Tues, Thurs, & Fri).

Charter Boats will be provided by Cork Harbour Angling Hub (http://www.corkharbouranglinghub.com) and accommodation packages are available from the Commodore Hotel (http://www.commodorehotel.ie), Bella Vista House Hotel (http://www.bellavistahotel.ie) and Ardeen B&B (http://www.ardeen-cobh.com).

For more information contact Cobh SAC on 021 - 4812167 or thru the following email addresses: cobhsac09@yahoo.com or seaangling@esatclear.ie
