ATTENTION ALL ANGLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by barry on Thu Feb 25, 2010 1:03 pm

Right lads really serious one here involving the faith of or future as anglers. I do not think we anglers realise just what a threat the GREEN PARTY are to us. They are totally against all field sports of all kind fishing ,shooting, hunting ,coursing ,ferreting ect…. . (and they also charge us extra tax to put petrol in our cars).
I hear the attitude out there of people saying they will never ban fishing and to be honest I don’t think they will get that far before they get voted out , BUT they will do their best to do it bit by bit. One of the first thing they will go for will be the use and storage of live bait (NO more lug, rag ,crab maggots, lob worms),they will put so much restrictions on us we may as well give up.

What can we do? There is already a lot going on behind the scenes by the hunting crowd and RISE(rural Ireland says enough) its time all of us got on to our clubs to get them involved and for them to get on to the ifsa ,we pay them money to represent us as anglers and we need them now.
I was at a meeting this evening at which anglers, gun club men and hunting people attended and it is now planned to hold a protest march at the green party ard fheis which is been held in the tower hotel in Waterford on the 27th march.
We need all anglers and country sports people to attend, someone else wont do it lads we all need to go. Ill have more info soon but any one can give me a buzz who are interested in helping.

A Cháirde,

I am the PRO of Waterford Greens. Barry's post was brought to my attention by a friend and I thought it appropriate to respond.

Contrary to common belief, the Green Party is not "against all field sports of all kind fishing ,shooting, hunting ,coursing ,ferreting ect."

The Green Party is against animal cruelty, and it is against practises that cause damage to, or could make extinct, populations of vulnerable species.

There are a number of keen anglers amongst the membership of the Green Party, including at a senior level, and Green Representatives have championed issues for angling clubs on a number of occasions, over many years.

As Barry mentioned above, the Green Party Annual Convention is being held in Waterford on the weekend of the 26th-28th of March. If a delegation from Rinnashark SAC would like to meet with one of the Green Party Parliammentary Party to discuss any concerns you may have about Green Policy (or Government Policy), please let me know and I will make the arrangements.

My email is stan.nangle@waterfordgreens.org

Well i dont see any reply by Mr Nangal ?
He tried to claim the green party are not against fishing ,shooting, hunting ,ect..
but a quick look at the green party web site shows he is lying as one of there policys is
QUOTE"When in government, the Green Party will introduce legislation to end blood sports. "

definition for blood sports
QUOTE"sport that involves killing animals, the pursuit and killing or capture of wild animals regarded as a sport"

so lads its time to support our sport and not be fooled by the green party who by MR Nangles post looks like there trying just to get our support.we should not support people who are against or past times and way of life.

Blood sports

Post by gerrywalsh on Thu Mar 04, 2010 7:51 am

Right on a serious note so. If Mr Nangle is interested in the debate can we have something definitive on what the green party deems to be blood sports. There is nothing definitive in the policies section of the green party's site with regard to what they deem to be blood sports. If the forums newest member could clarify this then i could form an opinion. i think they are non-specific on this one for political reasons

Blood sports

7.1 When in government, the Green Party will introduce legislation to end blood sports.

7.2 The Party will campaign for heavy penalties for organisers of, and participants in, illegal blood sports.

7.3 The Party encourages the alternatives of drag hunting and drag coursing.

7.4 The Party will campaign through the European Parliament for legislation, which will make it an offence to organise or participate in any illegal blood sport in Europe.

7.5 The Party seeks an end to the practice whereby Irish greyhounds are routinely and in large numbers exported to Spain, where they have been ill-treated, exploited and killed.

7.2 The Party will closely monitor, through the Animal Welfare Agency (AWA) , other sports which are based on the use of animals to ensure that no cruelty is taking place.

7.3 The Party calls for research into alternative methods of animal population management other than killing, and the implementation of these methods
This is from the green party website

Hi Gerry,

The Green Party uses the term Blood Sports to refer to sports where one animal is set on another for sport.

As I mentioned above, our primary concern relates to animal cruelty.

We do not consider angling (or shooting) to be animal cruelty.

Regards,

Stan

so whats its views on fox hunting ,coursing ,ferreting?
even tho you say your not i dont trust ye on this one stan.think your only trying to sweeten us up for votes.
for any angler who wants to go onto the green party site and see for them selfs there policies, these are not the people we as country sports people we want to trust.
were the greens not giving out about the grayhound men only in the last few days.

I personaly would have no proplem in having a meeting with Stan and see what is the Green party view on the angling debate as for the issues with foxhunting, coursing ete that should be debate elsewhere this is a Angling site and therefore in my opinion we as anglers should concentrate on our concerns in regards the green agenda.

Re: ATTENTION ALL ANGLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by barry on Fri Mar 05, 2010 8:59 am

i strongly disagee with you david on this one we must all stick together on this one weather its us as anglers or hunt people ,shooting people, grayhound people ,horse riding groups ,falconary ,ect....
they state they want to ban blood sports.which is angling shooting ,hunting ect..
and they said"7.2 The Party will closely monitor, through the Animal Welfare Agency (AWA) , other sports which are based on the use of animals to ensure that no cruelty is taking place." this will put effect horse racing ,horse and pony clubs gray hound racing.
we are all against cruelty 150% and dont look at any of these as any way cruel, but the greens are tied up with the anti blood sport people and there idea of cruelty is 100 times differant to ours.

i hear people say it wont effect fishing its only the hunting but a case in england when abus load od antis turned up to a hunt at a coastel area that was not on they turned on a group of anglers.
i am saddend by some peoples reaction to this i know as well as you there bet as a party and wont get in the next time.but why not make all the partys aware we are hear and we will stand together and have a voice and a vote.

Hello Barry .....u seem like a nice guy, but i think ur getting a little bit hot under the coller when it comes to sea angling end of blood sports. . . . Worst case sanero they try stop u collecting bate . . . . . .u know and i know that will never happen, as reguards all the other blood sports u mention let them fight their own corner. . . . .What do the other members of the angling clubs think . . .. I have to agree with dogfish try get a meeting with the greens strictly about the angling end of things . .. . . . .After all this is an angling web site all we can do is fight our own corner and let the othe blood sports people look out for them self,s . . .

try stop us collecting bait ,putting out tyres ,storing bait.where we can fish....

im not one bit worried about them and dont think they will do anything at all they wont be there for much longer Smile but just hink we should voice ourselfs as anglers show other politions we are here and want our own issues dealt with.
i disagree with meeting him or any green party member the can not be trusted and can turn on there word very quick.
i dont know or care about politics unless it involes my sport or like wise sports that are close to mine.one thing might be looking into if as anglers we want to get into talks with a party about our issues is something i saw on a shooting web site, fine gael said the would support all feild sports.so why not talk to someone who is 100% on our side????

Barry i can see you are very passionate on this subject, Yes we should voice our concerns as anglers and put across our concerns in relation to our rights to fish.
You mentioned FG as been 100% behind field sports and we should be talking to them BUT is it not better to talk to someone who you feel is a threat to your right to fish and argue the case and try to turn them in your favour ie you should be dealing with the "Devil" instead of the converted!!

Re: ATTENTION ALL ANGLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by barry on Sat Mar 06, 2010 2:22 am

i get where you are coming from david but i dont think alot of anglers see the type of people the anti blood sports are you will never convert them.i am involved in shooting as well as fishing and i have been following there movements against hunting for a long time now (as i know we would be next on the list)and they will not change.be like me trying to tell you fresh crab is the worst bait for flounders:).
there is prob a alot of people like mr nangle in the greens who are not against angling shooting ect.. but the core roots of the party is and when the party wip says jump they will.
people are saying this has no place on an angling site but angling is a blood sport it affects blood sports so i think it does need to be hear for anglers to see.as for mr nangle who is not an angler i dont know what he is doing on the site he dont need to be here to tell us there policies as there in black and white on there site.
now lads that is all i have to say on it going for a beer and some litter entertainment:)Smile

hi,
just as another angle, if they try and ban bait digging does that then mean i will not be able to dig the garden without fear of prosecution if i chop a garden worm in half!!! Smile
Hear what your saying but would be impossible to police and prosecute people, can you imagine doing time for cruelty to a garden worm! after all its bait to some anglers affraid
