Help save Southeast Search and rescue helicopter Service
The Department of Transport is planning to downgrade the Coast Guard
search and rescue helicopter service in the southeast.
Search and rescue helicopter bases in Dublin, Shannon and Sligo are
to remain with 24-hour cover, but the Waterford service, operated from
Waterford regional airport, is to be reduced to a 12-hour, daylight only
service. This would save an estimated €1m per year.
Fishermen's organisations, RNLI members and politicians in the
southeast have expressed outrage about the downgrading of the service.

STATEMENT BY BRIAN OSHEA TD / GOVERNMENT MUST SCRAP PLANS TO DOWNGRADE MARINE RESCUE SERVICE
STATEMENT BY BRIAN OSHEA TD
Labour Party TD, Waterford
Monday, 15 March 2010
GOVERNMENT MUST SCRAP PLANS TO DOWNGRADE MARINE RESCUE SERVICE
I was shocked to hear today that the Government has plans to reduce to a daylight-only operation, the marine search and rescue service at Waterford Regional Airport.
Over the last two years we have seen the Government embark on one crude cost-cutting exercise after another, but this is a step too far, and the people of Waterford and the South East will simply not stand for it
Effectively the Dept of Transport is saying that the safety of fishermen in other parts of the country is more important than that of fishermen in the South East.
There is no justification for this, and I demand that the Government scrap this unfair and unreasonable plan. I will be raising this most serious matter in the Dail next week.
This Government somehow believes that people in the South East will take any type of ill-treatment, and not retaliate come a general election. This region deserves it fair share, just as any other region does, and the days of short-changing the South East must end forthwith.

Re: Help save Southeast Search and rescue helicopter Service
Looks like all hands on deck for this one we need Anglers - Surfers - Fisher men - Sailors all that go out on the Sea to pull together.
THIS GOV. DO NOT CARE THEY ARE GONE COME THE NEXT ELECTION.
So any one with any ideas on how we can save our 24 hour search and rescue Service post or PM A.S.A.P.

Take any of the waste of money below and it could keep the helicopter service going for a long time

Noel Dempsey will open the M9 Motorway at Knocktopher on Monday between
10am and midday (they have changed the time at least once already).
Can we get a group up there.

Re: Help save Southeast Search and rescue helicopter Service
Well lads as anglers we should all be at the RISE march sat week 27th to support our angling needs for the future. But this march should also be used to get the point across about the BASS NETTING and HELICOPTER.
As angling clubs we should have a few banners made up about the bass and the helicopter. There will be a big crowd there from all types of country sports and as a big group on the ground we will be heard better.
We (Rinnashark sac ) are the only club involved at the moment and we need all other clubs to join in. We alone with banners for our issues wont stand out in a big crowd we need other clubs to attend also.
